It’s that time of year again when red hearts adorn the shops and we are often tripped into our own ‘stuff’ around what love is, how it feels, are we doing it right, is it real and in fact when do I know if I am ‘in’ love? To me love isn’t about the red roses, cards, and champagne! It’s about daily actions expressed through our bodies, a smile, a gesture, a knowing that you are loved and someone or something has got your back. It doesn’t even need to be about another person.
The older and hopefully wiser I get, the more I realise that the love that I am seeking is actually seeking me in every moment. It flies past me in the wings of a bird. It feeds me in the green food that I eat, the bite of a crunchy apple or the aroma of the first delicate scent of snowdrops.
All my life, I was seeking something that was surrounding me in every moment, the air that fills my lungs so that I don’t even need to think about breathing must be the most loving thing in the Universe? It breathes me into life and sustains me no matter what I am thinking or doing. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could lead our lives knowing that we breath in love with every intake and exhale. I have been thinking a great deal about the wonderful Zen master Thich Nhat Hanh since his passing a few weeks ago. He was an early inspiration on my path to self-discovery. He was/is love in action. What is wonderful when you look at his teachings on utube or read one of his books such as my favourite: Peace is Every Step, you see love emanating from him, but not love of the grasping, wanting kind. More a contented knowing that he is love and that his breath sustains him through love. If you haven’t explored him already, I highly recommend his beautiful teachings on finding love and peace within. Have a lovely valentine’s day being sustained by love.
