My mother-in-law asked me the other day – “why is everyone mental these days!” It got me thinking….at 90 years young, she meant it seriously. She can’t understand why so many people seem to be struggling with life especially young people. Her generation are from old stock that’s for sure. She sat her school leaving exams at 15 whilst in the middle of a bombing raid on London. She lived in the East End which took the brunt of the bombing. The only instruction the children got from the teacher was to go under the desk and finish their papers, alongside a strict instruction of “no talking.”
Stress was different then; they were faced with physical, actual life or death threats for the 6 years of the war. But the body doesn’t understand the difference between perceived threat and physical threat and for most of us these days, it is ongoing year after year. It does feel like a daily onslaught, ok we may not have physical bombs landing all around us but feeling under stress has the same results on the body. The constant stress of the media, the feeling of being out of control with governments making ridiculous decisions about our lives, the social media circus, electromagnetic smog, pollution, people’s negativity, it all adds up to a barrage on our delicate nervous systems.
Now, more than ever, if we want to thrive and not just survive, we have to take action and I don’t mean a little action either! But as most of us are not being attacked physically the action needed is not a physical one. By doing the internal work to take back control of our physiology and our fight or flight mechanism we can begin to calm it all down. Becoming aligned personally is critical and staying there is where the work is. We all know it’s easy to be happy when life is good, but what about when things are feeling overwhelming.
With all the therapy and navel gazing we have done over the last couple of decades, we don’t seem to be much further forward. So what is it that we want? Maybe we just want to feel safe, loved and appreciated and that must stem from an internal experience before it can work its way out into the world.
If I am feeling overwhelmed and under appreciated, I use the solar plexus aura spray or body oil to connect with the abundance of love and wisdom that I know I have inside of myself. Sometimes though, it is hard to find it! To help me find the faith I need in difficult times I use the Clarity & Vision spray or oil for clarity of thought, and then to top it all off I use the Balance & Protection spray to help me let the love in. I always find it’s my resistance that is blocking feeling good. If I can get through the resistance, I am then on my way to feeling better. This helps me to feel more aligned and take back control of my physiology.
If you too are feeling stressed and overwrought make time for yourself. The very thing you probably think you don’t have time for, is the very thing you need. Do some meditation or yoga. Rest and sleep to allow your body to re-set itself and allow time for the feelings to be acknowledged and to slowly evaporate. Keeping positive is our collective goal now and we all need to do our personal work to be a part of the collective shift for profound change. Keep strong!
