I love watching programmes on archaeological digs and treasure hunting. The magic of a great haul of gold hiding in a field or forest lures me into its excitement. Whilst I haven’t yet succumbed to the temptation of a metal detector, I can really see the appeal. As humans we love a good mystery and exploration. This must be the basis of one of our most base instincts and what helped get us out of caves in the early days. The thrill of the hunt, researching, coming up with new ideas, this is all part of what makes us tick. The bottom line is we like a good mystery with a little drama thrown in for good measure. There is no greater mystery to my mind than the self. Whilst others I know have been busy exploring places on our beautiful planet, I have been busy exploring my internal world. Our inner world holds more mystery, surprise, and delight than anything the outer world could ever show.
“The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and science. He to whom the emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand wrapped in awe, is as good as dead —his eyes are closed.” Albert Einstein
I really encourage you to dig deep and go within. Imagine you are putting a little miner’s lamp on your forehead and dive deeply into the inner recesses of your body and soul. There is nothing to fear, it’s all smoke and mirrors set up by ourselves in order to become explorers and find the mystery within. Daily meditation is the key, stilling the mind and being willing to find the ultimate adventure is a thrill that never dies. You get paid in gold in abundance, but not the physical kind!
