“Do not sit long with a sad friend. When you go to a garden do you look at the weeds? Spend more time with the roses and jasmines.”
We all need comforting at sad times, and it is a privilege to help friends in need and reach out with loving arms and hearts. It is also really important not to spend too long there! Being helpful is one thing, being enmeshed is quite another. It’s easy to get pulled down into others sadness if we are not careful, but our role is to keep shining the light of joy in their darkness to guide them out. Emotions are natural and normal and need to be expressed, we just must be careful we don’t stay in them too long if they are painful ones.
Sometimes we need to be brave and look to other more uplifting people to welcome in our lives and to show us how to get out of our sadness. Positive people radiate a vibration like flowers. They light up a dark corner just as a bowl of roses can. We have a choice about how we feel and how we react to life. Choose to be a vibrational rose, radiate that luminosity in every room you enter, leave the scent of something awesome in your wake for others to emulate and enjoy and in your passing leave memories of a colour that is hard to describe!
My two favourite summer scents are roses and jasmine, which makes me love this quote by Rumi even more.
